Hello! :waving_hand:

I started learning Rails around 2008 and am excited to see the framework continue to grow and improve. My background has UNIX origins, which is why I built unixcasts.com as a side project in Rails a few years ago. Hit me up if you’re interested in sharing programming tips, especially areas of the CLI, web development, Neovim, or Ruby.

Thanks,
Chip

Hello!

I’m Peter. I teach computer science in England, and have used Ruby, on and off, since version 1.8.7 - I remember picking up a book (pickaxe?) because I wanted to learn what Ruby’s modules had to do with “mixins”.

These days, I use Ruby mostly for some data analysis and simple applications. And “rake” - I have Rakefiles everywhere to help build documentation, create materials, package software, etc.

Hello, world! :waving_hand:t2:

I am Lucas, a Software Engineer with over 5 years of experience with a special focus on Ruby/Ruby on Rails.

For the past 2 years I’ve been doing freelance work unrelated to IT. Currently, I am actively seeking new job opportunities.

I also have a background in QA. While writing automated test scripts was when I met the ruby language and I’m still excited to work with them every day.

Outside of work I’m a cyclist, a hobby artist and a bedroom junglist.

I’ve been learning in public on my blog and sharing my two cents on Mastodon, BlueSky and LinkedIn.

Nice to be here!

Hey, all! I’m David, and I’ve been working professionally with Ruby and Rails for over 15 years. I’m currently a senior staff software engineer at Freshworks working on FireHydrant (we were acquired last month ) out in Portland, OR. Previously, I’ve worked for companies like Stripe, HashiCorp, GitHub, DigitalOcean, and New Relic. I like to describe myself as an “empathy-driven engineer” because I try to bring empathy into every part of my process by understanding that everyone, be they users or colleagues, come from diverse backgrounds with different needs (but it helps that I’ve pretty much only ever worked on tools or products for other software engineers :joy:).

I have a small number of open source projects and gems in GitHub but these days I try not to spend too much of my time outside of work on tech. That being said, I think the Ruby community is in desperate need of more welcoming spaces, so I decided to sign up and say “hi” after Javier sent me an invite. You can also find me at my personal site, https://davidcel.is, which is of course a Rails app I built from scratch because there wasn’t any blogging software out there that scratched my particular Indieweb itches (cross-posting in specific ways, a multitude of post types, etc.).

Happy to be here!

Hello everybody from Croatia! :waving_hand:

My name is Iskren, and I’m currently learning Ruby and Rails (via building stuff) to hopefully one day become a junior developer. I fell in love with Ruby two years ago, and attending EuRuKo in Sarajevo that same year was an absolutely precious experience for me. I still can’t believe that all those people were Ruby developers. :upside_down_face:

Happy to be a member of this space as I find the forum energy and context far more pleasant than places like Slack, Discord, Reddit, or social networks. :turtle:

I also can’t imagine living without music, so I am singing in two etno choirs and playing the frame drum in one. :musical_notes:

Cheers!

Hi! I’m Ellen, but you might know me as puppy, duckie, or duckinator.

I’ve been using Ruby since I was a teenager (sometime around 2005-2008).

From 2015-2025 I was one of the maintainers for RubyGems.

Currently, I’m on the Project Leadership Committee for Gem Coop. I’ve also been working on Jwl (pronounced “jewel”).

I seem to perpetually find myself working on build/release tools (bork for Python, dist for Rust, jwl for Ruby).

In addition to programming, I also sometimes record music, take photos/videos, attempt woodworking, and try to figure out how to organize my Nerf/Dart Zone arsenal that’s currently strewn across 4 rooms.

My website, pup-e.com, has updates on my projects, links to my music, and photos I’ve taken.

I’m on Bridgetown core and I’m the author of The Rails and Hotwire Codex. I also run scattergun.email.

Outside work, I have an unhealthy obsession with cricket and music (mainly progressive rock I suppose although I don’t quite understand genre). I dabble in photography too: https://fslash42.com.

Hi everyone!

I’m Tony. I started working with Ruby back in 2020, and it very quickly became my favorite programming language. I currently work on building out backend apps with Rails, with a decent bit of work in Next.js (enough to be dangerous). Also a big fan of terminal-based applications.

Outside of work, I’m an espresso lover (my latté art is looking pretty good these days!), car enthusiast (my daily is a 1991 Mazda Miata), urbanism enjoyer, and caretaker for two hilarious little mini dachsunds. Currently living in Boise, ID.
