Your favorite books for making software

Hello, Someone at work asked this on Slack recently, and I thought, why not ask it on the forum? What are your all-time favorite books about building software that you would recommend to community members? My list is below.

  • Eloquent Ruby
  • Programming Ruby: The Pragmatic Programmers’ Guide
  • The Pragmatic Programmer
  • Build: An Unorthodox Guide to Making Things Worth Making
  • Principles: Life and Work
  • Algorithms

That’s a interesting question! These are the top 3 books I would recommend to anyone:

  • The Pragmatic Programmer
  • Extreme Programming Explained: Embrace Change
  • Practical Object-Oriented Design: An Agile Primer Using Ruby

Some are old, but these are my favorites :

  • The RSpec Book
  • Layered Design for Ruby on Rails Applications
  • Agile Web Development with Rails

And these may not directly related to software development

  • Phoenix Project
  • Unicorn Project

They are fictional novels by Gene Kim, but to me, they feel like reading a book of prophecy :sob:
